Competence assurance 

Our certification standard requires candidates to collect evidence from a live work site to demonstrate their skills. Such evidence shows how they have grown through learning and exhibited the competence required for formal certification. 

By integrating learning into the candidate's work, it can flourish as jobs are completed. This approach cements the required skills for candidates and reinforces the relevance to the learner.

At the same time, learners develop a portfolio of evidence that proves they have the necessary skills and knowledge to complete the job.

Case studies

PETRONAS Carigali

Petronas Carigali embarked on an initiative to develop competence of their Oil & Gas Installation Managers. The Pearson SRF BTEC Level 4 Professional Diploma in Oil and Gas Installation Management (18368) was deployed to installation managers at all Petronas Locations.

Installation managers from Malaysia to Mauritania embarked on a journey to close any competence gaps. Assessors were developed from Petronas' own senior management teams. The Edexcel Level 3 Awards and Certificate in Assessing the Quality of Assessment (QCF) standard was deployed to the chosen Petronas Assessors.

After successful delivery of this program Petronas chose to also deploy the Pearson SRF BTEC Level 4 Professional Diploma in Oil and Gas Facility Management (19839) to its font line production and maintenance supervisors for both domestic and international operations.

Currently over 300 Petronas HSE critical frontline installation managers and supervisors have gained BTEC certification of competence for operating in an oil and gas production facility.

HESS

HESS is an independent energy company that specialises in deepwater development and production for offshore drilling in the Malaysie region. The following programs are being used by HESS for operations in Malaysia at their facilities:

  • Pearson SRF BTEC Level 3 Advanced Diploma in Electrical, Engineering Operations for Oil and Gas Facilities (18374)

Selected supervisors and senior management were selected to be certified for Edexcel Level 3 Awards and Certificate in Assessing the Quality of Assessment (QCF) and acted as assessors for the HESS candidates.

EPOMS

EPOMS, a subsidiary of Petronas Carigali, is an operations and maintenance service provider in the oil and gas sector. The company certifies all their Front-line operations staff. The intention is to improve quality assurance hence enabling the company to better serve its clients by delivering efficient and effective solutions.
