I went to the London iPhone Tech Talk on Friday. The Apple guys asked us not to blog about it. I don’t really understand why. You can get at most of what was covered by signing up as an iPhone Developer. Still, they asked nicely, so I won’t.
Via Carlos Sanchez’ blog. Using Ipoki and Qik, stream live video from your mobile and track the real-time location of the broadcast via GPS on Google Maps.
EEG headset that allows you to control and interact with virtual environments using thought and emotion from Emotiv Systems. Here’s the BBC news article.
Somebody please combine this headset with VR specs so we can get all William Gibson.
I love this. SecondLife as a real time layer over the physical environment that you view through a set of custom steam goggles. Well, no steam really but it’s not finished yet. It’s also got a slightly unfortunate project name at the Uni where they’re developing it: arsecondlife. God I’m a child.
LinkedIn is the latest online network to announce it’s going OpenSocial and giving us an API (an “intelligent” one, no less). I’m ambivalent about LinkedIn. On the one hand it feels as though it should be really useful. On the other, it feels a bit like a stamp collection. On the other hand (whoa! where did that extra hand come from?) it feels like a jungle stalked by ravenous business development people (sales) and people desperate to sell you something (er, sales).
Has anyone used it for anything other than trying to look more professional than they really are? If so, please do let me know because I think I’m doing it wrong.
Yes, I like many others got burned by the Fasthosts security breach so I’m starting from scratch with Media Temple. Grr. So far so good with Media Temple though. Impressive control panel on my Grid. Don’t worry, I’m not going to geek out in public. I’ll get in my cupboard.
